Some collectors store their gun muzzle down to keep oil from wicking into the stock. But of course it now wicks into the forearm and if you are wicking oil into the wood it means you over oiled the gun. It wouldn’t hurt the gun at all as long as the barrel is on something dry. If there is moisture in the stuff the gun is setting on, it will rust the muzzle.

The best you can do is control the humidity. Oiling is secondary. I would stay away from silicones. I know lots of guys here that use wax, I use G96 others use Old West Snake Oil. Just don’t over oil the gun and soak the wood.
