I really wonder sometimes how many buyers or collectors care about negative seller reviews. I’m not referring to 1 neg review, I’ve occasionally seen 3 or 4 negative reviews mixed in with 6-8 positive ones in such a short period of time and doesn’t seem to matter as they’re all different buyers & the seller is still selling.
It brings the question, do they really want the gun that bad to disregard the neg reviews?

Obviously so; what other explanation can there be? But I can’t remember seeing a GB seller, if that’s what you’re referring to, who didn’t have have an A+++ rating. A positive review would only have value if the customer knew what he was talking about, which, on GB, is doubtful, considering all the fake or otherwise messed-up guns sold there. No doubt the “lucky winner” of that “righteous” engraved ’94 there’s been so much talk about would write a glowing review of his new prize.

Negative reviews are a huge red flag. Not that means that an A+++ rating means much, but again, multiple negative reviews are a strong warning.

Sure they are, but what Rick is saying is that they aren’t stronger than the blind greed to possess.
Sometime desire to possess a piece can be strong. Particularly if it is something you’ve had a long-standing search for. There are no guarantees in life. Walking across the street is a risk. Some people avoid driving on icy roads and others will drive on them – because they have a blind greed to get somewhere? I will drive on icy roads, but not for all destinations.
I think it’s like anything else you do today. roll the dice, take your chances, and hope for the best. but this on line thing is here to stay and that is where our up and coming generations are going to be. hand shakes between men are a dying thing. Case in point I had to remind 2 young gentleman guests at the our turkey day dinner that their covers (hats) were to be removed.
I recently had the pleasure of dealing with a seller that had 4 or 5 poor reviews back in 2012 but over 100 positive reviews in the last 10 years. I requested a tracking number as I always do for the gun. After day 3 I messaged again if he could send the tracking number. There was no reply, and so after day 6 I asked again if he could please send the tracking number. The seller at this time said he shipped it 6 days ago and would send me the tracking number in the morning. Two days later, I asked the seller if he could send the tracking number for the 4th time, and no reply. After another day of the gun not showing up, I called the seller and he answered & said he was busy and will get back to me after the weekend. It’s now been 2 weeks, no gun, no tracking number.
My thoughts are, once a questionable seller, always a questionable seller. ??

I hope you’re spending this time waiting for the gun in composing an appropriate review of his professional conduct.
Oh, this is not going unanswered clearance. I will definitely be forwarding the appropriate review, but I’m also in cordial mode right now so that I get my money or gun. Not impressed.

Good thinking Rick. If you give him a negative review now, that reduces whatever motivation he has to make it right. I remain optimistic you will receive your rifle. 100 positive reviews over the last ten years suggest that the buyers did actually receive their guns.
Steve there’s been a few other exchanges between him and I over this and I don’t think he’s ever shipped the gun. A total BSer, story teller from day one, not to mention I found out from another collector friend who sold him the gun previously that it has some undisclosed issues. The gun is going back…if it ever arrives, which he said he’ll accept. We’ll see.
I have to wonder how many transactions and reviews were never documented or followed up with on his profile. Frustrating is an understatement. Never dealt with this poor a seller in hundreds of transactions.

Rick – I remain optimistic you will receive the rifle. My suspicion is that the issue is you are a low priority to him. He’s probably a procrastinator and skates by for a while through the BS stories you mention. I’m curious why you plan to send the gun back when you haven’t seen it yet? Bad seller’s do occasionally happen on to good guns.

I found out from another collector friend who sold him the gun previously that it has a cut barrel. A well done job I might say with correct new dovetail location. I had no reason to suspect it was cut and the photos looked correct. The seller informed me it was original, but my collector friend told me the seller knew it was NOT original and was sold as a Shooter to him and forwarded me the email between them for proof.
A little bit of investigation on my part as soon as this deal started to unravel a bit. Not what I wanted but we all know it happens occasionally.

Knowing what you do now, I’d tell him NOT to ship it to save yourself the loss of 2-way shipping charges. This jerk is a bad apple that others should be warned about.

Good point. Avoid the risk and subsequent hassle of an item lost or damaged in transit.

I can see the advisability of these points. Unfortunately, Rick will still be left with the hassle of getting the guy to actually send his money back. I would be surprised if this were done promptly.
Yes I told him not to ship it and just send me my money back. The last correspondence was I’ll send the money Monday(tomorrow) and I just ship the gun back when it arrives.
I have no reason to believe that he even shipped the gun after requesting a tracking number for over two weeks on 5 or 6 different occasions when shipping turnaround time is less than one week. I’ll either get my money tomorrow or the saga continues.
