What is the serial number? Proof marks did not show up until much later. Post or send me pictures of the gun so I can see if its original. Just having proof marks does make the it a fake, it means it went back to the factory later for a repair or refinish.

The proof on the barrel as well as the 22 numbers have been added were as the Short is a old stamp. The 22 was probably was stamped over a old stamp. I can not see a proof on the receiver.

When looking at the second picture I see what looks like, not sure, a wrench mar on the barrel edge. If it is, it would suggest the barrel was removed or at least some one outside the factory attempted to remove the barrel. Anytime you see wrench or vice marks on the barrel it’s not from the factory. I would suggest you look at the bore carefully for a liner. T/R

I have not studied a lot of 22’s in this model.  Is the font for the 22 correct for these guns?

Chuck,

The 22 stamp is real good but deeper than normal. I would say the barrel has been redone or changed since the finish of the barrel is a lot smoother than the receiver.
