Hi,

What’s the difference between a 30-30 and a 30 WCM? Is there a different round used for each ?

“30-30” is another name for the 30 Winchester Center Fire or 30WCF.

From May 1895 through March 1950, Winchester used the “30 W.C.F.” nomen.  Winchester changed it to “30-30 WIN.” in the spring of 1950.

Bert,

I read this post at 4 am this morning and was thinking exactly what you posted. I’m glad that you we’re able to explain this with the proper information along with pictures. I think this will help a lot of people, who don’t know or understand, whether their a newbie or just don’t know.

Thanks,

Anthony

For further edification, the transition from “30 W.C.F.” to “30-30 WIN.” took place in the 1669650 – 1676310 serial number range.

Serial number 1669654 is the earliest Model 94 serial number that I have verified thus far with a “30-30 WIN.” marked barrel.

Serial number 1676309 is the last (highest) Model 94 serial number I have documented with a “30 W.C.F.” marked barrel.

Even though I’m apparently not a member of the OPG I prefer to use the “WCF” moniker whenever possible. I also enjoy seeing a tang stamped with the original model number. Just a personal preference.
