Did Winchester ever put production year marks on underside of the barrel? I know of a model 12 in 28 gauge that has “37” stamped on the underside of the barrel. Is this legit or a fake? The serial number dates the gun to 1937.

Hello Tony,

Winchester did stamp the barrel with a 2-digit year number indicating when the barrel was manufactured. That practice took place from 1920 through the mid 1950s.
