Ijust purchased a small (30) pieces of mostly Mod. 92 s.r.c.’s .One of them is, Ihope the terminology is correct, a China contract carbine 44-40, ser# 895359. On the bbl. just ahead of the proof mark is C N Co and under the cal. stamp is inverted 44 and a proof mark. On the receiver, left side is same proof mark and C N Co. and under the ser# is 74 then under that 9 then under that either 81 or 31. there is a cartouche on the buttstock that I can’t make out. There is a sling swivel in the stock, probably added. Is there any information on these carbines as this is the first one I’ve seen and I don’t know anything about them. There is also a 44-40 14″ trapper ser#981258 and a 15″ 44-40 trapper ser#996329 if anyone is doing surveys on these. These guns have been in this collection since the 1940,s and ’50,s and He says haven’t been out of the house. I,m just in the process of going thru them, fondling and examining them for peculiarities . Will keep You posted with any unusual features I find. About 9 of these guns are in very high cond. , the rest of them are also nice. Does any one have knowledge of Sharps Mfg. dates. I have “old reliable” ser #41786 in 45-70. Thanks in advance for Your help. Harry P.S. I am working on getting familiar with a digital camera and soon, when I get some time will be able to post pics.
