OfflineHi Guys,
I have a question regarding Cody Museum membership and WACA membership. I wanted to get some Winchesters I have lettered and I remember there was some benefit to being a WACA member if you became a member in the Cody Firearms Museum. I was on the Cody website but couldn’t find anything. I probably missed it but I would appreciate any assistance with this.
Thanks,
Rob

OfflineOdd that I wasn’t able to find this on either site but the gist of it is you have additional searches when you are a member of WACA and the CFM. The number varies with museum membership level, IIRC. I have never needed to use all my allocated searches so I don’t know the details. I think the BBHC site has been expanded recently with lots of great features but I wonder if a link or page with that info was somehow lost. I have a hard copy somewhere but it is likely out of date. Letters and searches are just part of the benefit of supporting a great museum like the BBHC. I believe the CFM will be able to answer that question as all my search results list the number of searches and letters I have remaining.

OfflineBeing a WACA member get you additional phone searches but not letters. Depending on how many letters you want will decide what level of membership you would want to get.
You have to get the 250 level to get 2 free letters and 10 searches and be able to buy letter packages, you get 5 letters at the $500 with more searches and 10 at the $1000 etc.

I found this on the about us page of the WACA website….
Other benefits of membership include WACA-branded items (caps, table covers, pins, patches, etc.) which are available through the WACA Office. In addition, we have a partnership with the Cody Firearms Museum, so CFM Members who are also WACA members will receive the exclusive WACA benefit of 10 additional CFM record searches which are in addition to the number included in non-WACA CFM members’ standard search packages.

OfflineBill, the serial number search will provide in abbreviated hand writing all available info. However it does have the caveat that it does NOT constitute a letter. If I may, in my mind, such as it is, a serial number search could be faked easier than a letter with the embossed seal. That only comes into play upon sale, tho. Tim

So I know what the letter is, but what exactly do you get with a search? Is it just a verbal quote on the year & month it was built or is there more? Bill
Bill a search is also a letter but it will say at the top “This does not constitute a factory letter”. I have attached one so you can see an example.

OfflineYou can tell Cody how you want the search to be sent to you. They can call you, email you and they use to fax or mail the hand written yellow sheet form in the old days so I assume they could mail the new search letter.

OfflineBill-
I generally get a search done but for special rifles like Buck1967’s example I will order a letter. That often adds value when it comes time to sell.
