Yes. The barrel band is the feature that defines a carbine for me. Carbines typically have shorter barrels and carbine butts but sometimes rifles have short barrels and carbine, rifle and shotgun butts can be found on rifles and carbines. Sights are another area where they generally differ but not always.

In the 73 models the carbines in the 32 caliber with the small diameter magazine they used a rifle style magazine hanger since the diameter of the barrel and tube were quite different making the barrel band more difficult to do or it could of been aesthetics.
