Little gun show a few towns away this weekend, big show about 30 miles further down the road (Ft Worth) so it will probably be mostly locals. Suspect I’ll liberate a bit of cash (whatever that is) and go for a stroll. Should be interesting. Guess I’ll take a notepad, most any old Winchester I see should be new items for the surveys.

Ouch, lost a long post.
No survey-worthy Winchesters. One hard-used 1897, thanks to the Red Book I was able to give the seller a manufacture date and let him know his price was right.
Ran into three old school cops that I hadn’t seen in awhile. One is an awesome instructor who just spent five years in the Middle East helping DOJ set up police academies. Another is a scrappy little Marine that I often worked with, I’d go anywhere with Don. Third was a crusty old deputy sheriff who embodies what law enforcement was about 30 years ago. I first met Sam as a young officer, I’d arrested a person who needed to go to the county jail and we fought twice before we got there. I decided to ride up the elevator with my prisoner in hopes he wouldn’t give the jailers any trouble. Sam and two jailers met the elevator and I un-cuffed my prisoner’s right wrist. Sam knew my prisoner was a fighter and told him to open his right hand. I un-cuffed his left wrist and someone, may have been Sam, knocked him out cold. Apparently my prisoner didn’t open his hand and Sam was reluctant to repeat himself.
I secured my cuffs, dropped off my paperwork and headed for the elevator. Sam and his boys could take care of business.
I’m glad Sam and I could entertain a few vendors with our stories today, it was good to shake hands with the way law enforcement used to be. Sam is about 6’5″ and was quite the steer wrestler into his 60’s. Now well into his 70’s and a roper I wouldn’t want to tangle with him. I’m 6’3″, 280 and a pretty fair scrapper myself.

Great stories, TX. Thanks for sharing them. My stepfather was a police officer and I respect all of them in uniform.

LOL, guess I should have said “was”. Was quite a trip down memory lane. Got in a fight with my car last weekend and got scraped, cut & bruised up pretty good. Not much good at that anymore either, lol.

I’m OK, thanks. I just need to remind myself now and then that I’m no mechanic. Too tight to pay someone to replace the A/C blend door in my beater car so I dove in and got it done. I used to be pretty fair at trim, heavy line and maintenance type work but those days are gone. Never pulled an instrument panel before, hope I never do another. Turned out just fine and saved myself a few hundred bucks but I was pretty sore for a few days.
