I recently purchased a trapper and got a letter with it that has wording that they determined that it falls into this category. How do they determine that? Thank you for your time.

Ok, I probably should have read through the forums a little more. Apparently, you have to send your trapper to them? Which sounds risky at best. Still, it isn’t clear how they make the determination? I doubt they have a Winchester expert on staff? Do they contact Cody?
I apologize if these are dumb questions. Bear with me. Thanks!

There have been a few threads on this topic, I found this after a quick look but it’s not the longer more detailed one I was thinking of,ill keep looking. Hope there’s something in here worth it

Is there a serial number list for the guns that have been approved by the BATF?? If not on the “list” You have to prove to them that the gun was made this way. Factory Letter maybe? If it is already on the “list” there are laws that regulate how these can be transferred. Do not send it to them until you figure these things out. If any thing is not right they will keep the gun.
I am not an expert on this but have heard a lot of talk.
For those who are not aware, this is the current BATF list (they update it periodically).

BATFE has a very good website with a very comprehensive Q&A section. I’ve learned that I shouldn’t expect a straight answer from most BATFE agents but then again, most questions are not as simple as one might think when dealing with firearms that could be C&R’s, “NFA” guns or prohibited weapons. Caveat emptor, and do your homework.
