For those that cast their own 45 ACP bullets. Mike can tell you more about them.

I wish I could! Use of a half jacket would likely involve swaging or a mould designed to accommodate the half jacket. I’ve never seen a mould that would work for that. The diameter noted on the packaging suggests swaging in a die designed for the purpose. One of today’s well-known bullet companies (RCBS for Rock Chuck Bullet Swage) got their start selling swaging dies to allow reloaders to swage their own bullets from pure lead wire and gilding metal jackets or fired 22 rimfire cases. I’ve never tried bullet swaging, most practitioners are loading bullets of odd diameters as hand swaging involves a press with very significant mechanical advantage or a pretty strenuous workout.
My only personal experience with half jacket bullets are some 100 grain 30 caliber bullets that will absolutely explode a crow when loaded to well over 3000 fps from a 30-06. We only found feathers.
