I am a new member and not sure how to use this forum. I assume it is like putting a retainer screw in a carbine fore end ring. Seems hard at first but gets better.
I am a long time hunter only with 92’s and 94’s. I have recently been buying some higher condition guns because …. I like e’m.
Finally to my question. I have an 1894 sn 753558. It all looks like an original rifle but it has a fluted comb. Can that be?
It is a takedown, half magazine, 26 inch extra lightwieght barrel, shotgun butt with a hard rubber butt plate. Looks like a model 55 but it’s not. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, they start showing up in the time period of your rifle. In my small survey (400+) of 1894 short rifles, they start showing up around 1913 with an increased presence in 1915 and later. I do have one logged back in 1908, but I’m not sure about that one. I’m guessing they were a special order option since they are found at random, and on standard or deluxe examples.
