My last purchase from an online source was a 2nd model 73 in 44-40. The bore was supposed to be shiny and bright, it was although the rifling was worn. It’s definitely a keeper, and original as far as i can see. I did have to replace the rear sight as the ears were broken off. Ordered a letter, and got a surprise. It left the factory as a carbine. I looked closer a saw the staple holes were filled. Something i learned in the winchester book. I don’t recall if that was common, or somewhat rare.and it is accurate. Only had 3 cases and an original winchester mold that’s so so,and had 1.5in group offhand at 75 yds.
Post some pictures of the gun and the plugged holes. What does the letter say?

Got the photos and the gun was changed to a Octagon barrel rifle with plain trigger before shipping. This is common in the 73’s if they didn’t have the right configuration in the warehouse. I have seen many rifles with plugged saddle ring holes.
