I have to say, it takes a lot of guts to under the sea in a boat. What was your rate Bert? I never saw combat, and after 8 years I made Lance Corporal. Big Larry USMCR (60-68). Boot in San Diego 1961.
My rating was a Fire Control Technician (Ballistic). My responsibility as a young sailor was to operate & program the Missile Fire Control computers for the Poseiden (C3) SLBMs and then later the Trident I (C4) SLBMs. Later in my career, my primary watch station was COW (Chief Of the Watch). All watch standers forward of the reactor compartment reported to me.
