Wish I was, will leave it at that. Should be a great show and getting to spend time in the newly remodeled CFM should be pretty awesome.

Unfortunately, I will not make it to the show this year either. Due to my recent bout with Pneumonia & Sepsis (and the resulting complications), my Doctor and wife are not real keen on me traveling out to Cody for a week next month. While I currently feel good now (and am back to work), they feel that I should take it easy for a few months before embarking on any extended trips.
I hope everyone else has a great trip & show!

Sorry you guys can’t make it. I will be there again and looking forward to seeing everyone.

I am figurin’ on going this year (first time) will probably be on the bike though so won’t be bringing any firearms. Looking forward to the trip and the show. The plan is to continue on down to Utah and have a look at the grand Canyon and a few other spots along the way.

Guys,
I will be there again …….. wouldn’t miss it. Will have a couple tables toward the back near the Sharps guys. Also judging displays again this year which is enjoyable seeing the effort these guys put into them. Always a great time and a hometown family feel to the show. Hopefully will find a ’94 short rifle or two to take home.
For all of you that are members, please consider coming to the members reception Fri. night and the banquet on Sat. night. Always a nice time and an opportunity to meet some other folks from the club. They are both at the Buffalo Bill Historical center. Get with Trish if you need tickets to the banquet.
See you there……

I plan on making the trip to Cody, 3 day drive, and pick up the bro-in-law on the way. Don’t really have a shopping list but in the event I get an itch I want to be prepared to consummate a transaction. What is generally considered proper protocol and acceptable in terms of payment should I fall in love with a piece? Many folks travel some distance to display and trade at this show so how do they handle the business end of things? Will most folks accept a personal check with accompanying bank letter and appropriate forms of identification (FFL C&R, state drivers license)? This is my 2nd trip to Cody and any advise or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. Cash is king but I am not anxious to carry a bag o’bucks on a cross country trip.
Thanks
Mac
Mac, et al., Usually a personal check will be accepted if someone known to the seller knows you and will vouch for you. Cash always works, and often is worth a discount. I intend to mark one that I am bringing for sale at a set amount, with cash being a couple of hundred lower price. Many years ago I was surprised at who would accept a check from me. I still doff my hat to Dave Bichrest who figured my being an officer meant I was good for a check (which I was!). I still try to take an amount of cash, tho, in case the seller won’t accept such.

I think that is a good question and hope the answers flesh out the nuances, for both sellers and buyers.
I am a rare, occasional, amateur buyer and seller. “One of” types of situations.
I’ve heard some take offense when a guy breaks out the “pen” to mark $100.00 bills for authenticity. But this board is full of warnings about fake guns and modifications on an expert scale, designed to deceive the eye. If I’m selling a $12k gun (yeah, I know that is chump change to some of you) to some guy who’s just given it the 10-times-over with a magnifier glass and an MRI, then he sure as hell shouldn’t get upset about me checking his bills.
On the other hand, if you only want to buy or sell from/to people you know, have fun.
Just what is the proper etiquette for buying and selling so you don’t come off as a dope?

I prefer cash, that way I can only spend what I have! Bring your C&R and ID in case the transaction requires it; saves shipping and other inconveniences. Cash is king but I’ll take a check from someone I know or if we have a mutual friend. One thing to remember about the Cody show is that you’ll see guns there that you won’t see anywhere else and may never see again. Plan accordingly and bring extra gun cases.

I always travel with some cash and a check book. I have never had a problem buying with either. Once you establish yourself sometimes a handshake is all you need. Take enough cash to leave a reasonable deposit if necessary. Once paid in full arrangements can be made to pickup or ship at a later date. It is not unusual for me to make a deposit then pay in full and pick up the gun at the next gun show.
Some of us are set up to take credit cards also if you happen to see something at my table you can’t live without.

Safe travels, Gents. Wish I could be there. My shooting buddy and old friend Graham and his son William will be there. William has never been to an event like this but he’s fallen under the influence of his father and I and he’s learning to appreciate the wonderful world of Winchester. Hope all of you have a great time!
