Tim Said, on the .44-100 thread post;
Folks, I am way out of my depth in this discussion but I do have a silly idea that may bear some fruit. A few years back, Dave “Rip” Thorne (IF I have it correctly) was the presenter at the awards banquet at the Cody show. He was directly involved in the recovery of cartridges and cases at the Battle of the Little Bighorn field. He is detail oriented. I don’t know of him being on the forum nor how to get hold of him. I think he lives in Montana but so do a few other folks! Maybe, just maybe, one of you could go through the WACA office and call him with a question of any .44-100 cartridge cases with Milbank priming being recovered? If not, were any in another caliber with Milbank primers recovered? Ought to be someone with more knowledge than I have for sure! Also there is a likelihood he will be set up behind me again at the Cody show in July….. Tim
Tim,
I like the way you think! Maybe you can speak with him, and see if he’s willing to take part in the discussion on the WACA Forum, here on this subject. If not maybe you can get his contact information, if he’s interested in helping us move along a little farther, on the .44-100 Milbank primed cartridge!

Rick, you weren’t being called grouchy, you’ve always been very friendly to me. Chuck used you as a point of reference re: where JK is located… he has the unique personality. 🙂 But you are still correct about your lovely wife and dog. Looking forward to seeing you next month!

Not sure what I did to be called “grouchy” by both Chuck and Ben but to compensate, you have to remember that I always bring my lovely wife Georgia and the worlds friendliest Golden Doodle “Otis”.
Rick, Ben is correct I was trying to point out where JK sits. By the way JK and I share rooms in Cody so don’t get him wound up ahead of time.
Lucky Me ; I guess I’m going to Cody after all. Not riding the bike outthis year though so I maybe will have space to buy a couple of those elusive 1890’s I’ve been hearing about. Seriously it will be good to see some of You guys/gals again and meet a few new folks.

Great! Somehow I missed meeting you on your last trip. Looking forward to meeting you, please look me up if I wander away from our table. I have a couple of 1890’s but they’re just clean standard rifles.

I will be rolling into Cody three weeks from tonight (Tuesday). Plan to spend a good portion of the next day (Wednesday) wondering the Buffalo Bill museum. I’ve never been there and would appreciate some guidance for displays that I “shouldn’t miss”.
Ben-
I spend most of my precious museum time in the lower level of the CFM. There you’ll find a wall of vertical long gun displays that allow you to inspect rifles and shotguns up close and from almost every angle. Below them are thousands of smaller firearms and artifacts in drawers that take hours to explore. That’s just one section! The entire complex including the gift shop and the live bird “Raptor Experience” is in the “shouldn’t miss” category for a first time visitor. Glad you have budgeted more than one day to try to take it all in.

Ben, You might want to take a small flash light to highlight aspects of some of the rifles Mike referenced. Th overhead lights sometimes are inadequate. A mag lite will do you well. Tim
Good tip! I almost always carry one so I forget how often I use it. Don’t count on the light in your smart phone, battery life in the basement is compromised, at least for me. The lighting is good for me but the shadows can be problematic.

Wish I could make this trip also. Just not in the cards this year.I would truly enjoy seeing the Barrel machine that Mark will be using, and meeting him and talking to him would be educational, in itself.

Mark has been known to bring some pretty cool guns, too! Seem to recall one followed me home a few years back.
