Just realized we are less than eight weeks out on the Cody Show, in fact many of us will be on the road seven weeks from now. What I want to know is what you’re bringing, what you’re looking for and if we have any first-timers joining us this year. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again, especially the ones I haven’t had much chance to visit with. I believe we’ll have the same table but I’m getting around much better this year so good luck catching me there!
Mike
Mike,
I was a first timer last year and enjoyed the show immensely. Finally met Bert, Tim, JWA, Jesi, Angela, and Heather but, didn’t know who the others were as a lot of the vendor passes(name tags) were twisted around backwards as they commonly do. It was an unbelievable display of some of the finest Winchesters I ever saw and definitely recommend attending the show to anyone.
On a side note, I had a sore throat leaving Jackson WY that morning heading to the show and unfortunately ended up in the Cody hospital emerg all night a few hours after leaving the show. Probably the sickest Ive ever been.
We missed our trip to the Little Big Horn the next morning and drove 700 miserable miles back to Calgary where I ended up in the hospital again. Funny thing was, neither hospital could pin point my illness and gave me Tylenol both times and a pat on the back. It wasn’t until I went back to my son’s house after this second hospital visit, and decided to self test for Covid, with a positive result. Laid in bed for the next and last 3 days of our visit. Anyway, not sure how or where I was exposed, but I’ll be wearing a mask on any future plane trips.
I was still lucky enough to attend the Cody show which was the main purpose of our trip from the east coast. I wish all the attendees safe travels, good health, and a wonderful show. Definitely worth attending.

Airplanes are just Petri dishes with wings. Almost every time I have flown anywhere, I have ended up getting sick within the next 4-7 days. Makes me grateful I live within easy driving distance of Cody.
Looking forward to seeing the many WACA members in Cody!

Looking forward to the weekend… it has become the highlight of my summer! I just wish I had started attending years ago! I appreciate all the hard work that Vinnie, Heather, Brad and the entire WACA crew put in to make this show & group so special. Now, everyone needs to start praying for partly cloudy & 75 degree weather… at least on setup day! Along with three trade tables, I will have a one gun display of the 1906 that Winchester presented to Nan “Nana” Gable. She was the highest paid performer while with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. She was a fearless & amazing person. Her “never before” coast to coast horse ride, alone, across the US in 1910 seems to have fallen thru the cracks of history for great achievements. I will have her rifle and a video playing of her feat that was reenacted in a 1958 Death Valley Days episode…
Ted, I’m not sure I ever felt quite that way. I am always excited before the show but was more sorry the show was over. Even if I don’t buy anything there are always so many friends that I only get to see at the shows. It’s hard to have to wait for Cody but I’m also trying to make it to Tulsa. Don’t let anyone discourage you from going to Tulsa. Just walk by the things you don’t collect. I found a few things the last time I went to Tulsa that I hadn’t found in years.

Mike and others, I will bring several very nice models 1895 for folks to look at. Nothing to sell even though I have “trade tables”. My son and I had a wonderful time last year showing the rifles we had and talking to friends and new friends. Come on over!! Tim
Tim-
I’m looking forward to enjoying your eye candy. I’ve never been able to rival your efforts but I’ve had fun. Some years that’s all I bring but this year I’ll be trying to thin the herd a bit.

I can’t wait. My son and I will be flying out and arriving on Thursday the 10th. Leaving the following Tuesday. It is our first time out and still can’t believe we’re going. It has been a dream of mine for many years now. Hope we can get to fill our tentative itinerary. Only 58 days and a wake up!
I’m very much looking forward to the show, especially since my drive has been cut from 15 hours to less than a mile. We’ll have a few guns on the table for sale and a few guns for display that we’ve built or restored. However, I’m most looking forward to displaying our first-generation 1860’s era Pratt & Whitney rifling machine. We’ll even use it to rifle a barrel or two during the show. Mark

I’ll be sorry to miss this! See if you can find me a reasonably priced project rifle up there… 😉

I’m looking forward to seeing Mark’s machine, I’ll probably want to pull up a chair and just watch it work for awhile. Lots of reasons make this a “come Hell or high water” trip for me despite the 20 hour (slow driver!) drive time each way. Other than a new WACA hat I’m not looking to buy anything, mainly just want to put more faces with names (and hopefully remember them!) and see some of the finest Winchesters in existence.

That will be a very interesting display.

Glad you can finally make it, bonus points for getting the next generation involved! Souds like you’ll have time to see the sights around Cody, including the BBHC. Please stop by and introduce yourselves, will be great to put faces with names. Come straight down the first aisle, I’ll be at the seventh or eighth table on your left with some grouchy guy named Bert…if he’s not out chasing down survey entries or hobnobbing.

Besides the Pictures!

I hope you’ll make it someday, Anthony. Pics don’t do it justice and quite a few of us don’t photograph well, so to speak. Suffice it to say I am always on the wrong side of the camera.
Finally got around to getting a room reserved in Cody today, bestest seem to fill up firstest. May have to pitch a tent a time or two along the way if motel rates get much higher.

Oh I plan to find Bert! Although not sure he wants to meet me, you know how 2 grouchy collectors can be! And Jeff A and you too Mike. Part of the purpose of this trip is to meet all you folks. And Ben too!. Ya we planned this as more than going to the show. The Winchester museum has been on my bucket list for 20 years. Cant wait.

You’ll love the Museum and the show. I got a card in the mail yesterday from the Museum. Seems today is my 26th anniversary as a member. You want grouchy. J K Olson has a table right out from Jessi and across from Rick Hill. Now he’s grouchy.
I concur re: J K. He has a very unique kind of charm…..

All kidding aside Bert Hartman lives for events like the Cody show and sharing a table with him is truly an awesome educational experience as he and other very knowledgeable members discuss dozens of topics while I try to absorb as much as I can. Oh, and lately he’s been bringing some pretty cool eye candy! On top of that we are both long-time reloaders but our experiences are in very different areas. For example I’ll probably never own a 22 Hornet, let alone a K-Hornet but I learned quite a bit about that very efficient little cartridge last year at the show.
Bert is just one of over a dozen veritable treasure troves of information I’ve had the pleasure of visiting with in Cody and between shows. This is what makes the WACA Cody show special and an important event for any serious Winchester collector.
