I have been asking around and everyone has said that the Case knife was an accessory item that had to ordered separately from the rifle and serial #’s were not matched to the rifle? I have purchased a matching set just recently the rifle is CCH733 and the Case Knife is CCH733! Is this a fluke? Can anyone shed some light on this?

I checked my CCH box . There is no compartment/indent large enough to hold the knife. I believe Henry’s explanation on the CCH issue to in your original post to be the best explanation.
I did not have any order form in the box that offered the accessory items that I know exist , as seen in various pics included with the rifle on GB site . I have all the other paperwork including the CH stamp first day of issue
It is possible that a knife offered as an after accessory could be engraved with your gun ser#. If you could see an original order form (pics on GB did show this order form included with paperwork in box on a couple guns ) all would be answered .
I got a similar accessory order form with the JW , but maybe they didnt include the form with some CCH guns ?

The Case knife was done by Davidsons of Greensboro, NC. It was done in conjunction with Winchester and the United Sioux Tribes. I had to go to the Dakotas and meet with the chiefs to obtain permission to produce the knives. The United Sioux Tribes were paid a royalty on the rifles and the knives. There were 2,500 knives produced for Davisdons and we were able to match some rifles with the knives to make matched sets. I am guessing less than a hundred sets were put together. Subsequently Case produced 2,500 of the knives as a Case Knife commerative for a total of 5,000.
I hope this helps answer your question.

Dear Victor- I have the original flyer from Davidson’s regarding the special edition commemorative CHIEF CRAZY HORSE knife. I does state that they may be able to match the serial number of one’s Chief Crazy Horse Commemorative Rifle to the companion knife. So it seems that you have a legit set… one that someone apparently went to a little more effort to obtain. I’m sure a lot of people probably did not go to that effort, which should make your set a little more valuable. Good for you!

Victor,
Looking through some old files tonight I found advertisement that was included with my Chief Crazy Horse rifle.
The knives you are talking about were offered for $150 retail and $175 with Matching Serial Number.
I didn’t order the knife, and have since sold the rifle. I do have the flyer however.
Sounds like who ever purchased your rifle to start with, paid the $175 to get a knife with a matching serial number!
Awesome buy!!
