Well after long deliberation I’m off to the Calgary show, it’s a long drive (1800 miles or so from southern Ontario), having to go the northern Canadian route because of all the hassles at U.S. Customs now. It is usually a good show with lots of scarce Winchesters showing up and available. I’ll be taking some nice ’94,s, ’92,s, ’73,s, trappers and Winchester goodies etc. to trade or sell, plus some Colt s.a.a.,s. And of course I’m always looking for that special Winchester. It’ll be good to see some of My old friends from the west. With the Canadian dollar devalued so much , about $ .75 U.S. right now, I’m really surprised to not see more Americans up here taking advantage of the situation. Any way should be a good trip. I hope the weather is decent, last year it was -25 farenheit , to cold for the motorhome BRRRRRRR.

Safe travels and happy hunting! You have certainly found some exceptional Winchesters up your way and the currency situation is food for thought.
How big a hassle/expense is it to bring one into the USA?

Hi Henry,
I will be attending the show with a friend of mine and his father. I have always heard good things about the Calgary show but haven’t been able to attend as it is generally later than this year which interferes with my business’ busy time . I would like to meet up and say hello in person. PM me if you like. Currently hunting for a deluxe 1886. My Friend is after an 1881 Marlin. Either way enjoy the show!

Hi Michael . To answer Your question(border hassle, expense, etc.), You as a U.S. citizen would have no problems at U.S. Customs with long arms. For hand guns You may have to use a f.f.l.. I have had folks come pick up firearms here and take them home to the U.S. with no issues. I have also mailed antiques to the U.S. with no issues, but I don’t know if I would now. The gun laws are really arcaic both sides of the border and could use a serious overhalling, but I don’t know enough polititians with enough common sense to do that, and they wouldn’t think of asking the people that do. DOUG I will have 2 tables at Calgary packed with Winchesters, so stop by and say Hi., I’ll have a chair for You. I would like to meet You. Look for the old guy in black with the black Stetson hat.
