I’m sure You’ll get lots of info here, but here,s how I understand it . They actually take the gun to do the verification etc. and pending whether they like it or not it may take 9 months to clear orYou may not get the gun back at all. I’ve heard some pretty horrific stories about folks loosing rare and valuable firearms to these people. Now if the firearm was manufactured pre 1898 it is classed as antique and not recognized as a firearm by the BATF so wouldn’t need to be cleared. I am Canadian but I’ve attempted have dealings with these people in the past . I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll just keep My “little” guns this side of the border. Good luck

Anyone know the process to get an exemption from BATF for a short barrel rifle? I have a 1885 carbine made in 1903 with a15” barrel.
Serial number 90013 was manufactured in June of 1901.
Have you verified that it is not already listed in Section III of the BATF’s Curio & Relic list? Before you send it off to the ATF for inspection and clearance, make sure that you get a CFM factory letter for it (and send a copy of the letter with the gun). The CFM letter will greatly speed up the process, and result in an almost immediate clearance letter.
