I have a member asking what the record retention period is after C&R license expiration.  My recollection is that you are required to submit your bound book to ATF when you cease collecting activity but I seem to recall that is no longer a requirement although I can’t find any reference to record retention in my ATF notes.

Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks………

Pretty sure it’s not a requirement now, if it ever was.  Few yrs ago, I allowed mine to expire through carelessness, as I hadn’t been using it.  Couple of yrs later, decided I wanted it back, but had to re-apply.  Never returned my bound book, & no questions were asked.

Once your license expires…..destroy your bound book….That is it.

You’re quite welcome, Rick. The FAQ section seemed more user-friendly in the Treasury Department days but the info is still there if you look for it. In a nutshell the BATFE is not terribly concerned with C&R transactions. They know we will obey the applicable laws and keep the required records and the items we collect will not be used in crimes. I think this philosophy will not change with the transition to the Justice Department.
