OfflineAnybody read this article by Dave Emmary? It’s not bad, but I have no idea where he thinks the police model of the 1907 had an “ non-adjustable rear sight moved further back on the barrel…and a thinner, lighter, barrel contour”.
None of that is mentioned in either the John Henwood or Leonard Speckin’s book.
Nor do I see a difference in the several 1907s I have lying around. I think he wrong.
Maybe I’ll email Leonard.

OfflineI agree they seem clueless. There’s also an article on page 11 about a PPK bring back that their guy values at $800. I had to send him an email asking him what world he lived in. It’s worth twice that and then he claims it is Waffenamt marked, but there’s no indication of that in the picture. If it was it’d be closer to $2800.

OfflineI remember when G&A was a very good magazine. Then I subscribed to Shooting Times because they had an awesome photographer. He died, MLV managed to get shown the door and until I joined WACA and later TGCA I didn’t have much use for gun magazines.

OfflineAt least Guns & Ammo are trying to include some of the rifles that we find interesting. Emmary, seems to have had a “Classic” rifle featured in the magazine over the last few issues. We most likely will not learn much, and find some errors as well. But, it is nice to see them featured in a modern gun magazine. I will let Leonard know about the article the next time that I call him.

OfflineI agree. I tried to bite my tongue but I emailed them about the 1907 and then the PPk. I should’ve kept my mouth shut, but for some reason, I just couldn’t have bad information going out in print.
They responded about the PPK pretty quick and admitted the fouled up description of the piece and they agreed it should’ve been priced higher, but they defended the guy that made the appraisal. I don’t know he must be in his 80s, if that guy thinks a pre-war PPK goes for 800 bucks, he needs to retire. What annoyed me most was they claimed that it was military accepted, if that’s the case it should’ve been closer to $2500 so there’s really no excuse for it.

Offline1938 Winchester Sales Manual.
So it appears the police model rear sight could be ordered fixed at a lower point on the barrel. And I assume the front sight is not there either if you have to attach the bayonet mounting lug. I still don’t see anything about the contour being different. I guess I was half wrong. Although this barrel configuration is rarely seen most of the police guns were just the normal 1907 with the police enhancements.
