Hi guys, I just bought a dug out case with headstamp “WRACO” and “18” from a seller in China. The case is about 57mm long. Any idea about the headstamp?
It looks similar to the Chinese 6.8x57mm Mauser that was in use only by China since 1907 and up to early 1930s when the rifles in 6.8mm caliber were phased out. This is a very unique caliber and cartridge that Mauser developed specially to meet Chinese specifications and only for sale to China.
When I receive the case, will post more photos.
Thx,
Aaron

I’ve never seen this one before. Winchester made so many cartridges for non Winchester rifles. I took a quick look in Shuey’s book but did not find it. Did a quick search and found this.
What is the difference between 7x57mm Mauser and 6.8x57mm Mauser?

Thank you Chuck.
Online posts on the 6.8mm Mauser aren’t helpful at all. Just imaginations. I know the 6.8mm Mauser cartridge very well. Actually I have an in press article discussing the cartridge and the rifles chambered for this cartridge.
This WRACO looks very similar to 6.8x57mm in the photo. Or probably 7mm Mauser? Anyway, I will do some measurements when I have it.
