I bought a model 97 at an auction and it has knurling on top of the reciever.I have never seen that on a 97 except on a trap or pigeon. The barrel is 30″ Modified. Serial # 87101X.Could this be a Tournament grade?

No, it is not a Tournament grade Model 97. It is a Standard (Field) grade gun with a special ordered matted receiver.

I wonder how many people ordered matting on their receiver?
Not very many.
