I’m new to the group and looking for some guidance on installing a Marble tang site on my 1912 Winchester 1894 saddle ring carbine. I purchased a Marble sight # 009808 and the screw set # 995003. The forward screw is correct but I am having trouble with the stock screw. On the package it is listed as a 12X28 screw but it does not want to thread easily into the hole in the bottom tang. I don’t want to force and potentially damage the tang. Has anyone else used this set successfully to attach the site? Are the factory threads on this model 12-28? Any information is greatly appreciated.
The #12 screw is .216″ diameter and the rear tangs screws I think are slightly small diameter .211″? but they both are 28 TPI.

I did some more digging and the diameter of the Winchester tang screws are .208″ major diameter of the threads where the 12 – 28 screws are bigger. Winchester was making screws before the SAE standardization of the hardware between 1912 – 1916 and they kept using their sizes after that. If you had access to a lathe with a threading you could cut them smaller.
