1894 Sling Ring Question

I have an 1894 Carbine Ser. #454545 c.1909 with no provision for a sling ring.  Would this be classified as an “Eastern Carcine” or a “Special Order Carbine”?

It does have the 1/2 magazine which would be “Special Order”, but I was curious about the omission of the sling ring as to “Classification”.  Thanks.  RDB

Roger,

It is a “Special” order Carbine, but it is also an “Eastern” Carbine.  So, this is what I would call it… a “Special order Eastern Carbine”

Thanks fr the prompt answer.  My understanding was that “Eastern Carbine” terminology was used after the sling ring had been deleted.  Still learning. RDB

Roger,

The term “Eastern” was created to describe the carbines that were purposefully manufactured without a saddle ring during the time period when the SRCs were still being manufactured.  After the saddle ring (SRCs) were discontinued, the “eastern” carbine became the “transitional” carbine.  Winchester referred to them as a standard carbine.

Thanks for the replies.  I forgot to mention that the caliber is 38-55 W.C.F..  Nice light carbine with a good punch.  Wink  RDB
