I am aware this 1892 25/20 ser. no. 765249 will not pass muster with the “Purist Collector”. It has a ’38 barrel date. I bought it 20 years ago this month. It is one of those rifles I always thought Winchester ‘should have made’. The condition and configuration are to my liking. It came with a rear barrel sight in place, but I removed it for a better sight picture using the peep. I still have the sight. A few years later a matching rifle came up for auction, but finances were not available to acquire it. After all collecting is getting what one likes. RDB
Roger,
I also like it!
My old late friend used to tell me I could be a little picky sometimes, and we would both laugh about it, as he never had any beat up guns on his table!
He never accused me of being a purist though!
I know Steve always liked that caliber!
Thanks for sharing!

Alright, Tony has me on this one. I’ve had .25-20’s in M92 rifles and carbines, Marlin M1894 (rifles and carbines) and the Remington M25. Oh, I almost forgot Winchester M53. Never had a M65 but that would be cool.
If deer or larger were the task at hand, the nod would go to the .32 Special or .33 WCF . But the .25-20 is fun to shoot (for the whole family) and if you’re a handloader, a can of powder lasts a very long time.
This is one of my most enjoyable rifles to shoot. The bore is mint and the rest of the rifle is darn close:
