I have just purchased a Model 42.

Features are:

Standard pistol grip stock with NoShok recoil pad.

Extended forearm checkering on each side

26” barrel ventilated donut post rib with Cutts Compensator.  Stamped “SKEET”. No proof mark near the receiver.

Rib is stamped in small script “Simmons Gun Specialties” – barely legible with separation between words.

Bluing is 90+ %.  Edges and lettering are sharp.  Assume no reblue.  Also assume no refinish on the wood

Engraved steel (or possibly silver) grip cap

Its been suggested this may be a Simmons specially prepared gun that was purchased from Winchester with special features added by Simmons and then marketed by them.

Can’t quite figure out how to add pics ( this is my first post on this site )

The seller didn’t make any outlandish claims about the rarity of this gun.  He stated he had no provenance.  I did do some internet searching and found another Model 42 with the same distinctive grip cap.    Hoping someone who has had experience with Model 42’s can provide some information as to whether this is a somewhat unique Simmons gun or simply a frankengun.

(I’ll be more than glad to be able to post some pictures if I can figure out how) ?

TIA

If the proof marks are buried under the rib it was installed after market. If they are off set and visible the rib would of been installed factory.

If there is no choke marking on the barrel the Cutts would of been factory installed, correspondingly if there is a choke marking the compensator would of been installed after market.

Hope this helps……
