The Winchester Arms Collectors Association is pleased to announce that Paul Andrew Hutton has agreed to provide the presentation at the 50th Anniversary of the Cody Show Annual Banquet. The title of Mr. Hutton’s presentation is “Buffalo Bill’s First Scalp for Custer.”
Mr. Hutton is a distinguished Professor of History at the University of New Mexico and has published widely on the American West. His latest book, The Undiscovered Country, is a history of westward expansion that will be published in August 2025 by Penguin Random House. He is also the script writer of over a dozen documentaries for PBS, the History Channel, and national and state parks dealing with the American West, including the four-hour History Channel miniseries “The Hunter Heroes.” He has served on the Buffalo Bill Museum Board since 2018 and before that on the McCracken Library Board since 2005. He joined the Center of the West staff as Interim Curator of the Buffalo Bill Museum in 2024.
Mr. Hutton is the former executive director of the Western History Association and past president of Western Writers of America (2002-2004). In 1987, his book Phil Sheridan and His Army, won the Ray Billington Award for historical writing. The Apache Wars: The Hunt for Geronimo was published in 2017. He was a historical consultant for the films “The Missing” and “Cowboys and Aliens”.
The banquet will be held at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West on Saturday, July 12, 2025, 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the banquet are $45.00/each and must be paid in advance.
