Finally got that old heavy barreled 1876 back together and took it up on the ranch to test fire it.  It's been a pretty good day!  Mark

Mark,

You truly have a gift, of not only

… Mark! Very nicely done. It was a lot of work and you have quite a few hours in this old 1876. Was it worth it? I know I’ve enjoyed watching you get a grand old rifle back in firing order.

Kudos for loading up and cranking off a few BP

…on the development of this rifle between Browning and William Mason. Much stronger action with the locking block design vs the toggle link of the 1876.

The 1895 is definitely a unique design with the box magazine. I want to check out the functionality (possibly shoot it) and review the bore.

…a long gun on them and line up the pin with a hole underneath, especially if the gun has a contour like the back portion of the receiver on this 1876.  I find working on a thick carpet remnant works best for me.  It protects the gun's finish and gives room to at least get pins started out.  Mark

…don't want it so bad that I'm going to spend any more time looking.  If I happen across a deal, I'll grab it up.  If I want to fill a hole (Henry/1876/1892) I might try a little harder, but I don't even want to pay Uberti prices for a Uberti, so I guess I'm not a real buyer.

Hi, Bert,

Just to add to your comments regarding special order. I previously sent info on my 1876 which was sent to warehouse on Sept 13, 1878 with a single set trigger which was removed and shipped on July 29, 1880. This info is in my letter.

Here is an example of a special order rifle, in this case a Model 1876 Express.

A rifleman of superior intelligence ordered that gun:  shotgun butt.

Before counter-boring the chamber, I would try something less invasive.  I recently watched a video of Mark Douglas Cleaning up a M1876 .45-60.  One of the issues was that a round wouldn't chamber.  Mark smoothed up the chamber by taping some emery paper to a wooden dowel and
