…models, especially the '76.  Having said all this, the primary reason for the survey,  is to get a fair accounting of the surviving rifles, carbines and muskets. Even if the gun has been completely rebuilt or completely destroyed,  if it has a serial number, it will be an important addition to

…am working on a survey of surviving 1876 rifles, carbines and muskets.   Rick (Win4575) graciously gave me the material he had and I hope to expand and eventually publish it.

What is needed for guns…

…surviving now:

Serial number

Type: rifle/carbine/musket

Caliber

Barrel Type: octagon, half octagon, round

Barrel length

Trigger: plain or set

Any extras or special order items

…again this year, but two or three of my Winchesters may be. I don't know if Poulin Auctions attend the Cody Show. If they do, my "Historic" 1866 Carbine, 1876 Short Rifle, and my 1873 Smooth Bore might be on display there. They go on auction in November. In any case hope all's as well as can be.

…my own modest collection I pulled out four sporting rear sights that would have been common on 1873, 1876, single shot, 1886 and 1892 sporting rifles.  Not sure about later models.  I think some of the later 1866 rifles used the sporting rear sight as well.

…and for a variety of reasons (e.g. money), didn't.

Of those that were out there and could have been mine, what flashes to mind:

Winchester M1886 SRC .33 WCF

Winchester M1886 rifle, .50-105

Winchester M1876 rifle, .45-75 ("high velocity" - lettered this way).

…t have a complete set of catalogs, so not sure of the exact date.  I have a September 1882 catalog that still has the 44-100 reference.  The April 1886 catalog just shows caliber as .45 for the 1876.  Then at the bottom near the price list it says "This model can be furnished adapted to Central

…the Merz catalog was sitting in the mailbox.  This was quite an issue and one of the main features was Jim Huntley's collection of M1892 Trapper carbines and short rifles.  Wow - Trappers in 12, 14, 16, 17 and 18 inch barrel lengths. Short rifles in 14, 15 and 16 inch barrel lengths - and this is

… Herbert Houze's book lists 204 matted barrels 1876's.

John Madl 1886 search list 206 matted barrels 1886's.

  Bob's survey of 19,300 1873's list 27 matted barrels.

The 1894 survey of s/n 1-353,999 by John Hawk list 203 matted barrels.

…a few about a year and half ago and will be selling a few more...buying some land!

Have an 1886 50-100-450 (yep the rare one).  one of 350, takedown, 1/2 octagon, sgbp, super nice shape.  1 of 1 bascially with those options perfect bore.

1876 Rare Stuff, Deluxe and Heavy Barrell, long barrel stuff also.

1894 Pistol Grip SRC

1886 Cheekpiece Gun Deluxe

Know what they are worth and most have never been out in the distribution of the world, so are pretty scarce also.
