have a Winchester Model 64 Deluxe rifle in 32 special that has a 3” crack through the heel of the buttstock. Does anyone out there have or know of a decent deluxe stock that could be bought? Doesn’t have to be mint, just crack free. Thanks!!

Joel,

Why not have the original stock professionally repaired ?

Bert,

I suppose that’s an option. And I’m thinking if someone were good enough, the repair could be hard if not impossible to see… but it’s a fairly sizeable crack through both sides of the stock.

Im sure many would disagree with me but I lean toward preferring a factory original, era correct, and uncracked replacement stock over a repaired version of the original-to-the-rifle stock. At least in regard to a 64 deluxe rifle in very good condition.

My suggestion would be to attempt the repair first, see how it turns out, then go from there. Model 64 Deer Rifle stocks in decent shape are still attached to their original receiver… they seldom if ever get parted out.

Bert,

I agree with you. They are seldom seen for sale. I bought one a couple years back because it was advertised as a Winchester 71 deluxe stock. Once it arrived it was quickly apparent that it was for a model 64 deluxe so I returned it. I sure wished I hadn’t done that now!

As a side note Bert,

I don’t know if this one is already in your survey, but it’s a “W” stamped receiver 64.

serial number: 1255098

Joel,

It is not in the survey… please fill me in on the details (caliber, variation, etc.)

Thanks,

Bert,

32 W.S. Caliber

“Deer Rifle” / deluxe checkered

Rifle length barrel (NOT a carbine).

Let me know if there is any other info you’re interested in.
