What exactly is a “2 hexagonal barrel forend cap” ?

Are you actually looking for a forend nose-cap for a rifle with an octagon barrel ?

I think the point Bert is trying to make is the barrels are OCTAGONAL rather than hexagonal.  Tim

  Otisman68,

I have three forend caps for a standard octagon barrel 1886, one for button mag and two for full mag type. I need to know the width of the barrel, flat to flat at the cap, mine are .885″ and .890″. All are good shape but no finish.

I like Chuck am confused as to why you need two. T/R

I am restoring one rifle from just the receiver.   Another rifle i am changing from an original and very corroded round barrel to octagonal.  Full magazine length on the receiver restoration,  half magazine on the old round barrel to Octagonal barrel replacement.

So the width of the barrel at the fore-end cap tenon area on both barrels should match the cap flats. The one I have is .885″, I see a little blue inside so I assume it’s a later style. The other is .890-.895″ with just a little case color on the front so I would say it’s the earlier style. Both are original with no scratches or modifications.

Homestead has one for sale at $126 at .885″ and there is one on ebay for $89 no measurement, check them out. If you need any of mine I need $100 each.

Have fun fixing up your projects. T/R
