OfflineI am selling these 10, hard to find, Winchester hooded, “RARE”, #105 A, (99 A), front sight, “10 INSERTS ONLY”! Edited; These inserts are for the 99 A Front Hooded Sight. Not the barreled front 105 A sight.
I decided to post them here first, to offer these to our members, before I put them on eBay if needed. A single example of the more common one, with the circle was offered twice, on eBay last August, and December, and both sold respectfully by someone, for $35.00, and $40.00!
These are rarely ever seen, along with the front sight, as one such a front sight is available currently for the Winchester M-75 rifle. Here’s a picture only, of the front hooded sight, these inserts fit.![]()

These are Brand new and unused as they still have the light packing oil/grease on them, as the edges have the factory serrations on them that give the shooter a gripping edge to hold while changing. No Box, or papers. Asking $50.00,( EACH! FIRM! )+S/H, one or all! Can split up if so desired!!!![]()

I am selling the, “10 INSERTS ONLY”! $50.00 apiece, + S/H, OR $500.00 + S/H, for all 10, I don’t have to sell these, so I’m not interested in offers or trades. Thanks for looking!
First I’LL take it, followed by a PM. will get first dibs.

I don’t understand this, I guess I’m too old. I shoot the 75 with a 105a globe sight, those are not the inserts that I have that fit the 105. Here are my spares.
Steven, look at Ben’s picture, taken from “The Sight Book”, 1 OF 1000, by Madis. He is correct, as you’re sight is a Globe Front Sight like the incorrect picture that I posted!
This is the Winchester 105 A Hooded Front Sight!Edited; This is a mi marked 99 A front sight. Not the 105 A sight.

The front sight on ebay isn’t the right sight… however, your inserts are proper… good luck with your transaction.

Oh so there are 2 different front 105a sights ? One Globe and one Hooded?
Steven,
I apologize as I got busy with something else. According to Stroebel’s sight book, you’re front side was an Extra Option”, for the M-75 rifle. It’s a Lyman #77, “Front Target Globe Sight”!![]()

There’s only the one Winchester style 105 A front hooded sight.![]()

In his book he states there we’re 4 optional front sights available, in the Winchester section, on the last page in his book, page 320. I didn’t cross reference this anywhere to verify.

OfflineIDK. I only go by Jeff’s 75 book where the 105a Globe sight is an actual option, which is what is on my 75.
I didn’t see that other Hooded contraption listed as an option in Jeff’s book, but I could have missed it.
Also why was the Hooded sight also a 105a as indicated above. Crazy.

OfflineSteven,
In Jeff’s M-75 book, start on page301, 303, in the beginning of the sight section, and you can understand the 105 A sight was listed as a #99 A. To further complicate things, it was discontinued and change to the #105 A.
Page 327shows the almost identical Redfield #63 sight like you’re Lyman #77, and talks more in depth of this. On page 301, you can see how the inserts you’re talking about that fit you’re sight, look identical to the Redfield sight.

OfflineOk last go around LOL-
Thanks. I see the 99A on page 303 and on Model G7501R^1 now, sorry.
The 105A was used as a replacement to the 99A and used on G7501^2 and ^3.
I must not be reading your posts correctly, I was understanding you to say the 99a was redesignated as the 105A, but there two completely different sights.
The Redfield 63 inserts and the 105 inserts are not interchangeable, the geometry is different.
Also I do not know why the pic Ben posted shows a 99A and the text says 105A, that has to be a book error.

OfflineHi Gentlemen,
Sorry I am late to the party, Steve’s post above is exactly correct, the Winchester 99A hooded front sight was the first sight supplied on the Model G7501R rifles and the Winchester 105A was a completely different (later sight) that replaced it.
The image with the mixed-up nomenclature in Ben’s post is from the George Madis sight book and indeed is incorrect. The images are of a 99A sight but the title states 105A.
I am pleased that you are using and quoting my Winchester 75 book as the sight information in it is correct.

OfflineI appreciate the clarification gentlemen, and the enlightenment on the information above. I could have used a better selection of wordage in my descriptions, and in reading further in Jeff’s book on the M-75, I have discovered that these inserts are for the 99 A sight, and not the 105 A.
Jeff you’re research and information in you’re Books really help us to understand more about these Winchesters, M-69, AND m-75.
The sight section in the M-75 further explains, and shows us the difference in the #99 A front sight and the 105 A front sight. I did not realize the difference between the two, and thought that the 105 A, later replaced the 99 A.
So the picture above that Steven showed marked the 105 A, is actually mi identified, and is the 99 A front sight. I will go back and show my edit and correct it.
On page 303 in JWA‘s M-75 book, he clearly shows the 99 A front hooded sight, with the inserts.
