Are you looking for the standard blocks for the early Winchester A and B series and Lyman scopes or the wider post-1937 blocks for the Winchester No. 3, No. 5 and No. 8 scope for the octagon barreled 1890 and 61?

Hi JWA!  Thank you for the response and great question.  I’m looking for the standard blocks for the A and B series.  However, I had not even thought about the wider post-1937 blocks at all, in fact, I don’t recall seeing any 1890s with such a combo!  I do have an 1890 that I am going to have the barrel relined, and the idea of scoping it, too, strikes me as something I’d really like to do.  Do you have such blocks that you could stand to part with, JWA, or do you have a set of the blocks for the A and B series?  If you have either one of them please message me and name your price. Laugh

You do know the very early bases up to around 1933 or 1934 cannot be used with a later scope. These were made for the Winchester A5 and early Lyman 5A and had a point that screwed into a small hole. What you need , maybe, is the original Winchester Combination blocs. as found on all M52’s after 1933 or 1934. The Fecker type.  Pretty much a Winchester standard on all their target M52’s and M75’s. The later 22 bases will not work. Too wide. Big Larry

The early Winchester blocks or their later ones with the Fecker notch that appeared in the late 20s would be exactly what I’m looking for Big Larry!   Yes, I am aware that the post-1937 wider blocks will not fit the A and B series scopes.  Finding them with the flat bottom is a real challenge.

Hi JWM94,

I checked and am sorry I don’t have an original set of Winchester bases for your application but I do have a set of Unertl “LF” (flat bottom) bases that will work if you can’t find anything else.

Best Regards,

Thanks for all the time you have gone to in order to help me out on these issues!  Yes, I would very much like to buy them from you, JWA, and I have sent you a PM.  Much appreciated, man! Smile
