OfflineSOLD!
Trying to help a friend out, who’s trying to help a widow, sell a shooter grade, M53 T/D rifle, in the 25-20 caliber, mfg. in 1925, with a refinished Stock, decent amount of blue on the barrel, but the receiver is light on it’s original blued finish, possibly re blued, from what the pictures indicate. All in All, I feel this could be a worthwhile shooter to the right person. Included is a box and a half of ammo, and some brass.
Here’s the main issue! He’s an older gentleman, and won’t ship or send it out. Need to try to find a local contact. He’s located North East of Santa Rosa California. Any help here would be appreciated. We’re in agreement this is not a high dollar collectable and mainly a shooter, so the numbers will be very reasonable, to her! Any additional thoughts on value would also be appreciated, and can be passed along.
I’m having difficulties posting the pictures that he sent to me, as he stated, he’s not good at it, but he sent me some, and I can’t up load them here without the maildeamon, bothering me!

OfflinePics look good to me, show an honest rifle well taken care of. If the bore is good it should sell easily.

OfflineThe pictures show that the upper tang has been altered. Specifically, the tang sight mounting hole has been filled (it looks like by welding it) and the stock tang screw hole appears to have been enlarged.
Because of the issues with that rifle, and where the owner is located (Kommiefornia), my recommendation would be to find a local gun shop and ask them to sell it on consignment.

OfflineBert,
I agree with you on the top tang being fussed with, as the brass washer indicates something is going on there, or was done to it.
I spoke with the gentleman trying to help out the widow who in possession of the rifle, and I guess the local gun shop/store isn’t interested in helping out with it.
I was hoping someone on here that was close by, could possibly assist as we do here in the Midwest!

I do not know of anyone in that immediate area, and selling firearms in the Republic of Kommiefornia is a logistical landmine. In state residents (including neighbors) cannot legally sell/transfer a firearm without the intercedence of a licensed (FFL) dealer. For that reason, I made the recommendation to seek out a dealer willing to sell it on consignment.

OfflineSounds like a good possibility.
If you’re interested, you can PM me, and I can put you in contact with the owner and her friend.
I’m confident they are frustrated enough to accept a reasonable offer, as I can let you know numbers discussed in a PM. They’re very fair, and esspecially for a so called parts gun.

Thanks Chuck.
Any suggestions out that way? Even if they have to drive some, as I know that state is Long vertically!

Anthony, I wish I could help. Santa Rosa is north of San Francisco. The only place up north I know about is Witherell’s in Sacramento that is east of Santa Rosa about 100 miles.

Thanks Al,
It was nice to be able to help them out, with no vested interest.
The gentleman that bought it presented a very fair cash offer, and more than just a parts offer.
I was impressed. Everything is in the eye of the beholder.

Glad it worked out. It hurts me to know functioning firearms are being parted out but we all need or probably will need a good part to make a good gun better. Eye of the beholder, indeed. I hope the buyer has some fun with it.

OfflineAbsolutely Mike,
My friend called me this afternoon, and said that the widow wanted to say thank you, as he put her on the phone, and told me the gentleman that came by, said everything we did about the gun, and knowing it was had some refinished wood on it, he was gonna keep it and shoot it, and not part it out! She said he offered her, $750.00 for it, and she took it, being very grateful in return.
What a nice call, as she seems like a sweet lady and very appreciative!
