Hi guys,
Looking to sell a real nice antique Model 1894 Takedown rifle. Serial number 21,639. According to the Cody letter, this rifle was serialized on March 31, 1897. The rifle has a full 26 inch octagon barrel, half magazine, with crescent buttplate, and as noted is in TD configuration. You do not see too many full octagon, half magazine rifles. Rear sight is a period replacement Lyman No 6 folding leaf sight, the front is a factory installed Lyman Globe No 5, ivory bead and post. The bead is partially broken, post great. This is a real nice looking antique Winchester sporting rifle. Has that kind of classy look you might expect to see on a gun illustrated in a Madis book. I would guess it is somewhere between 85-90% overall condition. The bluing is good a dark as it should be, even real nice bluing remaining on nosecap which is something for a gun so old, and blue on lower tang is excellent, one screw on lower tang bit buggered though as can be seen. Wear in the usual spots, i.e. td flange. There is really nice case color remaining on both the lever and the hammer – even some lacquer remaining on the CC on the lever – and all the wood finish remains, and the wood is excellent with the exception of a few small chatter marks on the buttstock, not sure what they are from. The wood has some really nice extra grain, real nice grained wood on the gun. Very pretty. Only other issue is small patch of oxidation or wear on the top of the barrel in front of the front sight. Not sure what it is from, maybe a blood spill at one time. You only notice it when you have it in hand, and it is not going anywhere, looks same now as when I bought the gun years ago.
Asking $5995. As it is antique, it can be shipped directly to you. Just figured out how to upload pics, have more if you need more, send me a PM or email me at [email protected]. Just noticed, in photo 10 (barrel and TD mechanism) there are little pieces of stringy things from my cleaning cloth that got left on the barrel, not scratches 🙂
Thanks,
Matt
Geez, thanks for asking that. I listed two guns for sale this week, I forgot to mention the bore in both of them. The bore is very good in the rifle. There is a very small amount of very light pitting partway down the barrel, but very shallow / minor, and the grooves are still nice and deep. Very good rifling in the gun. It should shoot very well.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Matt
