Full magazine, graduated peep sight and globe front sight (period but added after delivery). It is accompanied by a letter from the Buffalo Bill Historic Centre confirming configuration including full nickel plating except for the barrel which was blued as well as factory deluxe stock. The rifle was shipped from the warehouse on June 30, 1903. The top of the barrel is marked “ WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CONN. USA./KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATTENTED MARCH 29, 1866 OCTOBER 16, 1860.” IN TWO LINES. The calibre designation. “22 SHORT” IS MARKED on the flat just ahead of the receiver. “22 CAL/SHORT/SPECIAL” is marked on the bottom of the elevator. The upper tang is marked “MODEL 1873” and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. Furnished with Factory Deluxe walnut stock with a checkered forearm and pistol grip, Winchester plastic end cap and crescent nickel plated buttplate.
CONDITION: With 98% plus factory quality blue finish remains on the barrel showing only minor high edge wear and slightest collectors type handling marks. The nickel magazine tube has taken on a mellow frosted patina. The nickel receiver is excellent and has taken on a frosted patina much like silver plating. The factory deluxe stock is excellent and original with only a few small pressure dents. The checkering is crisp.
A truly rare and desirable piece that would complement any serious Winchester collection, this is real documented deluxe 1873 22 short lever action complete with a factory letter. Last sold through a major Auction House, in 1977 for +$25k, offers considered. Rifle located in the US.
Mal,
Looks like a nice gun but I can’t see much since the pictures are quite small. Larger pictures would help a lot. Interesting caliber stamp on the elevator. What does it say on the letter?
