A question for anyone in the Group to chime in on.
Were there ever Winchester company programs to sell or promote the sale of replacement barrels and frontends to the general “Public” to refurbish their worn rifles??
I know the 1890 rimfire line was targeted heavily with replacement barrels.
It’s certainly not uncommon to find model 64 barrels on 1894’s or model 65 barrels on 1892’s
Was there a dedicated push to refurbish?? If so was it published in any company literature?? And approximately what years would it have been promoted and supplied??

No, there was not a “dedicated” push to refurbish. Winchester from nearly day one offered mail order replacement parts for those that needed them (listed in their catalogs), but they did not ever create a specific program or special promotion to sell replacement barrels, front-ends, or other replacement parts. Instead, they maintained an active & skilled shop that specialized in Return & Repairs.

Thanks Bert for your prompt reply. Most of the 1894s I ve seen that have been fitted with 64 frontends “look to me” like they were furnished as a “Kit” with the wood and magazine w/caps and all hardware—matched and ready to install. . Thought there might have been a “factory” promotion or something encouraging installation of the OEM replacement parts.
Thanks again
Paul
