just bought a set of cartridge guides that look like "ten o’clock" guides for 38-55 according to Pirkles picture in For Collectors Only book. They were lis Dted for 30-30cal. Are the early guides cal specific. Thought they were.Do not know what the slot in one guide is for. Some say it was for a spring to hold cartridge.Any picture or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
If the hole is in the right guide, it could be for the spring used on the 1969 .44Mag carbines. While very early guides were caliber specific, this changed sometime in the 20s or 30s IIRC. Can’t find my pic of the right guide for the 44Mag.
If you don’t want them… I’m looking for a pair of pre-64 cartridge guides for, as it turns out, a .30-30. All pre-64 guides are not threaded, as they screwed from the inside into the receiver wall… All post-64 guides are threaded and are screwed from outside the receiver.
