thanks for the quick reply Tim the rim fire bolt would be the one most available as there are not that many center fire available i have called around the parts dealers but did not have any luck was hoping someone in the association might have parts that they would sell not being able to go to any shows does not help.im just curious if anyone ever took exact measurements of these bolts/i tried to call Joe Cortina in Florida about his conversion article that he had in the 2006 Win magazine article but never received a call back if you recall i called you awhile ago about his article i guess ii am getting long winded about this thanks for your time .gene66
Chuck, Gene and others. Yes, Gene would be trying to convert a model 1866 to fire a centerfire cartridge. And as Chuck pointed out, no doubt it would need to be a rimfire version bolt for the 1866 that then is modified by someone to have the centerfire striker. Hope this is now clear. Pretty sure a model 1873 bolt is not close enough but don’t know that for sure. About bet Bob knows! While I have both models, I no longer am comfortable taking them apart. Tim
You guys got me thinking out loud to myself over here. I recall someone, some where mentioned that the after market replicas, like Uberti, for example, might be interchangeable as a bolt part, mainly because I don’t know if you are gonna fond what you’re looking for.
I’ve been wrong before, and time will tell.
Just my two cents.

chuck sorry i should have said that i would like to modify a 1866 bolt to center if i could find a bolt .Tim brought up the subject of the links being not the same for rim fire versus center fire i imagine this has to do with the head spacing thank you for your help .
Are you still unable to contact Winchester Bob?

hello Anthony check the win 2006 magazine for joe Cortina he used the UBERTI bolt but said he had to modify the action to make it fit he never said what he did i never could contact him thanks for the comments gene66
gene,
Maybe that’s where I read or heard about it. That’s a shame you weren’t able to contact him, and find out what he did, or how much work it might have involved. Having the inside scoop, from someone who’s been there and done that, sure helps, instead of jumping right in.
Good luck in you’re search. We’ll try to keep our eyes open for you.

Anthony called bob to order striker firing pin extractor and pin he has not made up any links thanks for reminding me now to find the bolt.
All you need is the long firing pin and the striker that screws onto the end. Then modify the end of the pin by adding a center fire pin and remove the pins on the striker. Test to make sure you don’t cause slam fires. This will happen if the new firing pin is too long.
