Postal Money Orders are safer than Certified Checks and don’t require the amount of time to clear as personal checks. And compared to other Money Orders, they offer security to both the buyer and the seller.

With all of this discussion about penny starting bids I took another look at the Model 52 GB auctions. The ONLY rifle with any bids on it is mine and it also is the only rifle with a penny start! http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=winchester+Model+52

Michael, My 2 cents…Good job on the penny listing. As one who has purchased guns on GB and watched many others I feel that the penny start is the best way to go. I see many of these go for as much or more than the high starts. I believe that it is 90% psychology.. for one, there are way too many guns listed by dreamers at high prices that just sit there for months or even years without bids. Is there something negative about this gun that I am not spotting, but everyone else is? I am immediately drawn to the guns that are being bid on. Ah ha, now here is a gun people want.I believe that during the early and mid point bidding process you are likely getting multiple bidders, who are then personally vested in the gun. Once you have bid on an item you will watch it religiously and at that point I believe in an auction it can often becomes personal. My god this gun must be good, everybody wants it..Bad strategy, but Human nature for sure..People want to win. Possible that I am over anylizing it, but I do feel that it has a strong psychology to it. And what could be more “honest” than trusting the market to set the price? Good luck, and anxious to see how you finish out
To all,
Thanks for the helpful input, suggestions, and for those who bid. I sold all six rifles and one shotgun and made a profit on every one of them. Just a little one on one of the rifles but I am not complaining at all. Even sold the “hard to sell” Model 52’s! So I have been depositing checks. Packing up rifles and getting ready to do the shipping later this week and next. Keep your eyes open. I have a few more that will be on the auction block in a few weeks. Then I will go back over all I have “in the keeper pile” and see if anything else should be some place else. It was lots of fun. Almost as much as buying.
Thanks again

Clarence,
I personally know a few of the sellers who use the “penny” starting bid option, and they are honorable people. And Yes, they have had to sell a small number of items at below the expected sale price. However, that has not deterred them from using that option. It is very rare when an item of value sells for less than true market value.
On a side note, I am sorry to hear that you have lost that much faith in your fellow man.
Bert
I think it’s a good auction strategy providing it gets lots of views and bids. The famous auction excitement mentality is your friend here and it may net you a higher bid than reserves and schill buyers.
OTOH I only do live auctions so give my opinion the weight it deserves.
