Hello, I’m looking into selling my dad’s turkey gun(I’m never going to use it ). Model 97, 16ga full choke.2 3/4 chamber, 28″ Standard, Ser. no. 880585. All original blueing and finish. Good condition. I got two dates for it,1942 or 1932. I see a lot on auction for $1000+, and 2 of my local gun stores said $300. I’m guessing it’s worth at least $800 but maybe I’m just wishing ??? Any insight would be appreciated, I would like to sell but not giving it away. Have pics if interested.
The serial number you mention identifies it as a 1932 production gun. Based on your description, it is a standard Field grade gun. In “good” condition, the $300 estimate is close to the truth. It takes an exceptionally fine condition Model 97 Field grade 16-ga to reach the $800 range.

Without pictures it is hard to give you an estimate of the value. If it truly has all the original finish it could be in better than good shape. Send pictures to me at [email protected] and I will post them for you.
