I am looking for a complete 98A Bolt Peep Sight for my Winchester Model 71 made in 1936 and a front sight. Maybe a Lyman 31W Gold Bead. Can anyone help with that?

There is a Swap Meet topic on this forum where you might have better luck.  An original bolt peep is a rare bird and any that I’ve seen on eBay or dedicated parts Web stores were very expensive.  You might consider an accurate reproduction. I believe Providence Tool makes one and that firm is well regarded.  The last price I saw was around $250 USD but that was a while ago.

Taylor & Co. Has the reproduction bolt peep for right about $133 on their website. Never seen one by Providence but they do make a copy type sight that is very similar but not exactly like a 21 Lyman side mount peep

Lyman Type 98a        https://www.taylorsfirearms.com/1886-rifle-bolt-rear-sight-acc-usa418.html

Lyman 21 Type                              http://www.peabodyrifle.com/sights.html

Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

Thanks for the links. The prices have really come down.  The Lyman 21 repro really looks good on both the Winchester 95 and 86 and it used to be much higher in price.  I’m glad to know myself about the Taylor 98.

The Taylor sight information says it’s tapped to “Pedersoli’s thread pitch”… curious what that might be. A nice, original 98A typically brings $550 to over $700. for a mint example.  The original Lyman 38 will be in the same ballpark…

Pedersoli makes an ’86/71 repro, so assume that’s what it’s intended for, not an original.

The actual thread pitch is what I’m curious about… if it’s metric (most likely) or SAE… hoping there might be the possibility of using the screws, windage block on original 98A bodies as original parts have become very difficult to locate.

Thanks for your reply. I will contact Taylor & Co. and hear if the screws on their Peep sight fit an original Winchester Model 71.
