Recently picked up another Model 64 Deer Rifle.I knew well the original owner and got the rifle from his son.
The rifle’s rear sight has the reversed elevator and the sight is flat across the top .All the other Model 64 rifles that I have seen, had a rounded top rear sight. The original owner of this Model 64 ,always referred to his rifle as the flat top Model 64.
Any one else have a Model 64 rifle with this type of rear sight?Just wondering if they were a special order thing or just put on some rifles and not others ,etc.?
Was just looking at an old ad for the Model 64 rifle. It said the rifle came with a number 22 H round top rear sight. However ,a flat top would be furnished if specified, add letter F to the order symbol.
So it would seem, that in order to have a flat top rear sight on the Model 64 it had to be special ordered that way, or else the rifle came with a round top rear sight.Just as sb said, was written in the Madis Sight Book.
To my knowledge there were not many special order items offered for the Model 64.Wonder how often the flat top sight was special ordered on the Model 64?

Good question, 28ga. Apparently we’re reading the same copy about the 64 in that special orders were discouraged. Maybe this option was an alternate version of the standard.

I understand your curiosity, I think the difference between factory options and special orders is misunderstood and this is one area that illustrates or further confuses the issue.
