I recently acquired a lovely Winchester Model 1894. It has a 26″ round barrel, button magazine, and that awesome smokeless rear sight. The serial number is 518243, which puts it at 1910. I’m new on this forum, but would like to know more about the smokeless sight. I’ve seen many a Winchester in my 50 years, but never one with this sight on it! I’m very intrigued.
Hello,
Hmmm… is your Model 1894 chambered for the 32 W.S. cartridge? The serial number identifies it as being manufactured in September, 1911.
The special Smokeless sight is/was a relatively common item that Winchester installed on the Model 1894 Rifles chambered for the 32 W.S. cartridge. Thus far, I have documented (140) Model 1894 Rifles manufactured in the 1907 – 1924 time period with the Smokeless sight installed on them.
