For the Winchester 3-leaf Express sights, there are the 34A, 34B, 34C, and 34D.  Does anyone know what model and/or calibers each is designated for?  All of my references are very vague.  Any help understanding the diffences between the A, B, C, and D applications will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Don

Don,

The 34C is listed for Smokeless powder loads, and the 34B is listed for Black powder loads.  I am assuming that that is in reference to the Model 1894.

I have not found any reference for use with the 34A or 34D, but is might be the same uses for a different model.

Thanks Bert.  I think I’ve located a 34C for my 1894 30 WCF.  The same seller also has a nice 34A.  My dad has an 1886 in 45-90 WCF that’s also missing the 3-leaf express sight.  Do you (or anyone) have any idea which one would be correct for the 1886 in 45-90 WCF?

Thanks,

Don

Don,

I do not know which of the Express sight codes would be correct for a Model 1886.

It would be the same as the 94, if intended for black powder it would be the 34B and smokeless 34C, in the 86 if 33WCF it use the 34D

Thanks for the info.  So, what you are saying is that the 34A would be for the 1886 black powder calibers, correct?

Any idea what model/caliber the 34 “S” is for?  A fellow member offered one for sale.  It’s pictured on an 1894 in 32 WS.  The sight leafs are marked 1,2,3 with platinum lines.

Thanks,

Don

I have a few of those sights marked 1, 2 and 3 in my sight research. I’ve had a few people come up to me since then and say they have one on a gun in their collections as well. I did not look at the back side of the leaf on the ones I’ve had in hand because they are fragile and I did not want to break a leaf off. Maybe they’re all marked “S” like the one you have mentioned is?  If so we have a 34S Express Sight.

I can’t remember off the top of my head seeing reference to a “S” marked one or one marked 1, 2 and 3.  Maybe someone else here has one.  Maybe measure the leaves on the “S” sight and compare them to measurements printed in Old Gunsights or The Sight Book.

So far the few I’ve noted have been on smokeless 1894s. There is one marked 1,2 and 3 on this gun:

This one and another are in the 1894-99 section of the 1894 Sights Project also.

Brad
