I know I’ve seen this rifle somewhere before.

Hi Al,

This gun passed thru Don Grove’s hands a few years ago.  I remember that odd front sight and “Etc.” in the letter (which turns me off to some degree).  Nice looking deluxe 1894 nonetheless.

Can’t recall seeing that front sight before but I like the looks of it. Good looking rifle. The “etc” is intriguing.

Very possibly, but was a highly skilled one who did it; a “semi-globe,” serving no purpose but to obfuscate the target.  “Etc.” means “is it quitting time yet?”

Don,

You’re right, that’s where I’ve seen this rifle.

Maybe Etc. is refering to the Lyman receiver sight? It does look factory installed.

Very possible, since I see the two dots present, but maybe those sling swivel studs ( or any other skilled alteration) that are not installed yet are “factory original” too.  Sorry for being sarcastic, but just proving a point.

To me, that front sight looks more like the work of a blacksmith than Winchester Repeating Arms Company.  YMMV
