I’ve been looking through old catalog reprints and Nick Strobel’s Old Gunsights book and it seems there were several rifle manufacturing companies who used Winchester sights during the 1880-1900 period. Conversely, it may be that Bridgeport Gun Implement Company made sights for all these rifle manufacturing companies, including Winchester.
1. Bullard Firearms (1885 catalog). Bullard used 1.125″hole spacing for tang sights which is different from Winchester’s 2.175″
Vernier peep, graduated peep, mid-range vernier, wind gauge front, sporting front, globe front, sporting rear, sporting leaf.
2. Marlin Firearms (1894 catalog)
Sporting leaf, wind gauge front.
3. Savage Firearms (1900 catalog)
Sporting leaf rear, Express rear
Any thoughts from the esteemed group?
I call myself a collector as it sounds better than hoarder
I did some looking though a list of drawing, jigs and fixtures on the McCraken Research where I remember seeing references to sights. From what I found Winchester made the Carbine rear sight – new model 1881, Buck horn, Peep sight – new model, Combination front sight, Wind Gauge spirit level, WFL (Winchester Four Leaf) and the Wind Gage rear
