Can someone advise what application this three leaf express was intended for? It’s listed on eBay & the description is “Vintage Winchester/Lyman Three leaf Sight The first blade on the sight is marked 50 to the left and 100 to the right. The second leaf is marked on the right with the number two. The third leaf is Mark on the back only with the letter (D) which is pretty rare”.

The Winchester 3-leaf express sight is definitely not “rare”. They were factory installed as an optional rear sight on many different Winchester models, most notably the Model s 1885 and 1894.

Agreed, and on the 1894’s they are very common to the extra lightweights, especially if they have tang sights on them as well. I just looked in the safe and counted 5 of them I have with those characteristics.

Sorry for the confusion. I’m referring to the markings on this particular express(50 to the left and 100 to the right & the third leaf with the letter (D) on the back).
The ones I have below say 50 (only on the right) & then a 1 & 2.

Like Bob said, I think its the 34D in the sight book, for 1894 32 WS, among others.

I came up with 6 of the express sights in my collection, all but one are 1894 ELWs and the other is an 1886 ELW 45/70. They are the more common marked 50,1,2 versions…. and as mentioned earlier, all of them are matched up with tang sights except the 86 which letters with Express sights. Always fun to line up a few of them and notice the differences. I don’t know if that particular version of the 3 leaf express is rare. Since mine are mainly on 1894 ELW rifles, and the 32 WS wasn’t offered in those, I don’t have that example.

Thanks Gary. A little knowledge for everyone, especially new members, on the express rear sight.
And nice collection.

This sight will also be found on quite a few late production 1876’s in .50-95 Express.
